Portcullis Gate Repair Los Angeles has been fixing and installing driveway gates across LA since 2008, and the crew that shows up at your property is the reason the phone keeps ringing. We’re a Kingswell company, which means every technician who walks through your gate is background-checked, uniformed, and trained to work on nine major gate-operator brands. But what matters more is that we live in the neighborhoods we serve, from the hills of Silver Lake to the flats of the San Fernando Valley. We know how LA soil shifts, how coastal air corrodes hinges, and how a gate that worked fine in June acts up in September when the Santa Anas kick in. Here’s who you’ll meet when you call.
Our People
Dean Prescott, Owner & Lead Gate Technician
Dean Prescott founded Portcullis Gate Repair Los Angeles in 2008 after spending years working on commercial access systems for apartment complexes and gated communities across Southern California. He’s the guy who still picks up the phone at 2 a.m. when a gate sensor fails and a resident can’t get into their own driveway. Dean specializes in diagnosing intermittent electric-gate faults, the kind that three other companies couldn’t pin down because the problem only appears when the temperature drops below 50 degrees. He’s certified to service LiftMaster, FAAC, BFT, Linear, Viking, Ghost Controls, DoorKing, Elite, and Mighty Mule operators. Off the clock, he restores old Willys Jeeps in his garage in Burbank, a hobby that has made him unreasonably good at sourcing discontinued gate parts. He wrote the Kingswell Guarantee himself and is the one who answers for it if a repair doesn’t hold.
Luis M., Senior Installer
Luis M. has been with Portcullis Gate Repair Los Angeles for eleven years, longer than any other crew member except Dean. He runs our new gate installations from the first property survey to the final swing test, and he’s the one who handles the tough jobs: oversized ornamental iron gates in Hancock Park, sliding gates on sloped driveways in Mount Washington, and cantilever gates that need perfectly level track and rail. Luis is licensed and insured and carries a welding certification, which means when a gate post cracks or a hinge bracket shears off, he can fabricate a fix on site instead of ordering a part and making you wait two weeks. He’s been known to bring a box of ceviche from his cousin’s place in Boyle Heights to share with the crew after a long install. When a customer asks who will be handling their new gate from start to finish, Luis is the name we give them.
Rachel K., Service Coordinator
Rachel K. is the voice you’ll hear when you call (213) 322-0062, and she’s been answering that phone for six years now. Live person, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays. No voicemail tree, no callback queue. Rachel knows the Kingswell price list inside out and can give you a straight answer on what a swing-gate actuator swap typically costs before a technician ever sets foot on your property. She schedules every job with a real arrival window, not a six-hour “between 8 and 2” guess, and she’s the one who calls you if the tech is running 15 minutes behind. Before Portcullis, Rachel dispatched medevac flights, so a gate emergency at 3 a.m. does not rattle her. She grew up in Echo Park and still lives there, and she can usually tell you within a block where your street is, which helps when a customer is too flustered to give clear directions.
Andre W., Apprentice Technician
Andre W. joined us two years ago as an apprentice after completing a program at LA Trade-Technical College, and he now rides along with every senior tech on the roster. He’s the one testing photo-eye alignment while Luis welds a bracket, or running the load test on a Viking operator while Dean traces a short in low-voltage wiring. Andre is earning his certifications across all nine brands we service and has already passed his Ghost Controls and Mighty Mule training modules. He was born in Inglewood and moved to the Valley as a kid, and he’s the first to volunteer when a job requires crawling under a gate in the rain. Someday he’ll take over installations for his own roster of neighborhoods, and until then he’s learning the trade the Kingswell way: written price before any work starts, written guarantee on every repair, and the job site left cleaner than when the truck pulled up.
Styles & brands we work with

One Standard, Every Job
Every Portcullis Gate Repair location is independently owned and operated, but each crew is held to the identical Kingswell Guarantee. That means the team you meet in Los Angeles works to the same written standard as every other Kingswell company: the price is quoted and agreed before a single bolt is turned, the technician shows up in the arrival window we gave you, the job site is cleaned before we leave, and every repair carries a written 365-day guarantee stamped on the invoice. If the repair fails within that year, we come back and fix it at no charge under the 365-Day Done Right Promise. No franchise double-talk, no fine print. The five plain-English commitments of the Kingswell Way are taped to the wall of our shop: say the price before the work, show up in the window we gave, leave the place cleaner than we found it, put the guarantee in writing, come back if it fails. Dean, Luis, Rachel, and Andre answer to that standard on every call.

AfterWhy the People Matter More Than the Brand
Gate repair is not a faceless service. The person who shows up to diagnose a grinding trolley or a dead circuit board is making real decisions about your property’s security, in real time, with your family on the other side of the gate. A Kingswell guarantee only means something if the technician who carries it can actually do the work. That’s why every Portcullis technician is background-checked, uniformed, and arrives knowing the specific operator on your property before the truck pulls into the driveway. We train on nine brands so the tech doesn’t spend the first hour reading a manual. And when a repair goes sideways, like a gate post that crumbles when the old actuator comes off, our crew doesn’t pad the bill. The written price you agreed to is the price you pay. Anything beyond that requires a new conversation and a new written quote. That’s how Dean has run this place since 2008, and it’s how the crew runs it today.
Call and Meet the Team Yourself
If your gate is stuck, noisy, or refusing to close, call (213) 322-0062 and Rachel will pick up. Tell her what the gate is doing, and she’ll get you a real arrival window and a technician who knows your neighborhood. Estimates are free, the price is in writing before work begins, and if we fix it and it fails inside a year, you don’t pay for the return visit. That’s the Kingswell Way, and it’s been the standard on every job since 2008.
