Viking Welding & Fabrication: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Viking-compatible welding and fabrication parts across Los Angeles, and most gate weld and fabrication repairs run between $275 and $750 installed, depending on what failed and how much metalwork is involved. Weld repairs on Viking gate frames and hinge points are usually same-visit jobs here, because we carry the common plate stock and reinforcement gussets on the truck. You’ll typically find us here because the gate started dragging on one corner, a hinge tore out of the post, or a weld cracked along the frame rail after years of heavy use. Sometimes it’s a slow sag you notice over months. Sometimes it’s a sharp crack you hear from the kitchen.

The video-arc welding, MIG repair, and steel fabrication work on Viking gates in Los Angeles follows the same Kingswell rule we apply to every job: a written price before any work starts, and a written 365-day guarantee on the repair itself. If the weld or fabricated part fails inside that year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s the 365-Day Done Right Promise, and it’s stamped on every invoice we hand you.

Portcullis Gate Repair Los Angeles is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with Viking, but we work on their gates throughout the LA basin, and we keep our trucks stocked with the steel, plate, and hardware those gates actually need.

Which Viking Models This Applies To

Viking gates in Los Angeles split into two broad families: the tubular steel pedestrian and driveway gates sold through fence and gate contractors, and the heavier commercial cantilever and V-track slide gates. The welding and fabrication needs are different for each. Residential Viking tube gates, typically 1.5-inch or 2-inch square tube with a powder-coated finish, fail most often at the hinge welds and the bottom rail corners. The commercial Viking slide gates, usually 2-inch or larger tube with a galvanized undercoat, fail at the truck roller plates and the V-groove wheel mounting tabs.

Before we quote a weld repair, we need to know two things: the tube size (measured outside edge to outside edge) and whether the gate is powder-coated steel, galvanized steel, or aluminum. That last point matters more than most people expect. You can’t MIG-weld an aluminum Viking gate with steel filler, and if the gate is galvanized, the weld area needs proper grinding and ventilation before any arc is struck. If the model plate is still readable, it’s usually riveted near the hinge side of the frame. If it’s gone, we measure and match from what’s in front of us.

For most residential Viking gates, structural steel plate gussets welded over a cracked joint outlast patch-welding the crack alone. A quality aftermarket hinge from a domestic fabricator often exceeds the factory hinge in material thickness. We’ll tell you when OEM is the only sensible call, and when a better local fabricated part will do the job for less.

Signs Your Viking Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

  • Gate sags toward the latch side by half an inch or more. The top hinge weld or the hinge barrel itself has worn or torn, letting the whole gate drop. On a Viking tube gate, you’ll usually see the gap at the top hinge post widen while the latch side rubs the driveway.
  • A visible crack runs through the powder coat on a frame rail or corner joint. That crack in the finish almost always means a crack in the steel underneath. Powder coat hides early fatigue, then opens up suddenly once the metal underneath has been flexing for months.
  • The gate makes a sharp pop or creak when it opens or closes. A torn weld or a cracked frame tube shifts under load, and the creak is the two sides of the break rubbing against each other. It gets louder before it fails completely.
  • A hinge has pulled away from the post or the gate frame. On Viking slab gates, we see the post-side hinge weld fail long before the gate tube itself bends. The post holds, the weld tears, and the hinge hangs on by the top edge.
  • Rust staining runs down from a weld joint or a bolt hole. Moisture has penetrated the weld seam or the coating, and the steel is oxidizing from the inside. By the time the stain is visible on the outside, the internal loss is usually worse than it looks.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Most Viking weld repairs in Los Angeles run between $275 and $750 installed. A single cracked corner joint that needs grinding, a gusset plate, and a proper MIG weld is at the low end. A full hinge replacement with new fabricated plates on both the post and the gate frame, done in place with the gate realigned, lands around $500 to $750. When the damage is bad enough that the gate must be unbolted, laid flat, repaired, and reinstalled, the price reflects the extra labor. You’ll always know the number before we touch the gate. That’s written, not spoken, and it doesn’t change at the end of the job.

Every weld repair includes grinding the damaged area back to clean steel, welding with the right filler for the metal, and recoating the repair with a zinc-rich primer and matte black finish that matches the existing gate. The labor and the fabricated steel are on the same written quote. The whole repair carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise, written on the invoice. If our weld fails inside a year, the return visit and rework cost you nothing.

DIY or Call Us?

A gate owner can safely do two things before calling: check for a visible crack in the powder coat and watch where the gate drags. That’s where I’d stop. Welding a Viking gate yourself without knowing whether the tube is galvanized, whether you’re dealing with aluminum, or whether the hinge load needs a gusset instead of a surface weld is how small cracks become dropped gates. The welding itself involves high heat, arc flash, and a gate under load. There’s no shame in not doing that on a Saturday.

If you’re in Los Angeles and your Viking gate is cracked, sagging, or tearing at the hinge, call us at (213) 322-0062. We’ll ask what the gate is doing, give you a real number, and show up when we say we will. Dean’s rule on the phone is simple: “Tell me what the gate is doing – or not doing – and I’ll give you a real number before I even pull out of the driveway.”
