If your BFT gate has a cracked hinge, a sheared bracket, or a torn weld on the frame, we stock and fabricate the repair parts here in Los Angeles and can usually have the work done within one to two business days. Most BFT welding and fabrication repairs in Los Angeles run between $280 and $750 installed, depending on whether we’re repairing in place or removing the gate leaf and rebuilding it on the bench. You’ll typically find the problem the morning the gate starts sagging against the driveway, or when the actuator strains to push a leaf that no longer sits square, or when you hear that metal-on-metal grind every time the gate swings past the halfway point.

We’re an independent service provider, not a BFT factory shop. That means we match the part to your specific model and series, but the warranty is ours, in writing, on every invoice. And in Los Angeles, where coastal salt air in the Palisades and the dry heat of the Valley both eat at powder coating and weld points differently, the right match matters more than the brand sticker on the box.
Which BFT Models This Applies To
Most BFT residential and light-commercial gate systems in Los Angeles fall into a few recognizable lines, and the fabrication needs differ by series. The Deimos and Phobos swing gate operators drive leafs that carry their weight on hinge posts, which is where we see the bulk of weld fatigue. The Rigel and Sub underground operators move heavy driveway gates, and those frames take a beating at the lower rail joints. The Giuno and Kustos slide gate lines are all about the V-groove track wheels and the guide brackets, which loosen, shift, and eventually tear the mounting welds if they aren’t caught early.
Identifying your part is simpler than it sounds. Look at the hinge side first: most BFT swing gates in LA use hinges with a 4-inch or 6-inch leaf pattern, and the bolt holes are your fingerprint. Measure center-to-center across the bolt holes, and photograph the weld area before anyone grinds it clean. For slide gates, check the steel gauge. Older BFT slide frames in Los Angeles neighborhoods like Chatsworth or Sylmar were often fabricated from 14-gauge tube, while newer installs run 11-gauge. We can weld either, but the repair technique changes.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question, our honest take is this: for cast BFT hinge bodies and actuator mounting brackets, we prefer OEM or a machined equivalent. For raw steel sections, gussets, and plate reinforcement, a quality local fabricator in Los Angeles can match or beat factory specs at a lower cost. We’ll tell you which route makes sense before we cut anything.

Signs Your BFT Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags and scrapes the driveway at the latch side. This almost always traces back to a cracked weld at the top hinge barrel or a hinge post that has pulled out of square. The crack widens a few thousandths per cycle, and eventually the leaf drops enough to drag.
- You hear a rhythmic pop or grind at a consistent point in the swing. That’s the sound of a broken weld inside a tube section flexing open and snapping shut under load. It won’t heal, and it will tear further every time the gate cycles.
- The actuator mounting plate wobbles when the gate moves. On BFT Deimos and Phobos installs, the actuator bracket takes a surprising amount of lateral force. A loose plate means the welds or the through-bolts are failing.
- Rust staining weeps from a joint that used to be clean. In coastal Los Angeles zones like Playa del Rey or San Pedro, moisture gets inside the tube and rusts from the inside out. By the time you see the orange line, the steel behind the weld is compromised.
- The gate leaf shudders when the wind hits it. A structurally sound BFT gate resists flex, but a frame with a failed lower rail weld or a cracked gusset will show visible movement in a Santa Ana gust. That flex is work-hardening the surrounding steel, which accelerates the failure.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
In Los Angeles, expect to pay between $280 and $750 for most BFT welding and fabrication repairs, parts and labor included. A simple crack repair with grinding, prep, and re-welding at two hinge points runs toward the lower end. A full leaf removal, bench straightening, tube section replacement, and reinforcement gusseting runs toward the higher end. The variables are access, steel gauge, and whether the powder coating needs to be stripped and redone after the weld cools.
Every quote is written before we start. Not a verbal ballpark, not an estimate that balloons after the gate is apart. We give you the number, you approve it, we do the work, and then we stamp the invoice with the Kingswell Guarantee: a written 365-day warranty on the repair. If that weld fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge under the 365-Day Done Right Promise. That’s the same promise on every job, whether it’s a $300 crack repair or a $750 frame rebuild.

Tell me what the gate is doing, or not doing, and I’ll give you a real number before I even pull out of the driveway.

AfterDIY or Call Us?
You can safely check three things before you call us. Look at the hinge welds with a flashlight and look for hairline cracks or rust lines. Rock the gate leaf by hand and watch for movement at the hinge barrels. And take photos of any crack you find before the wind or the weight of the gate distorts it further. Those pictures help us quote accurately over the phone.
What you should not do is weld a load-bearing gate hinge or bracket yourself unless you’re a qualified welder with experience on structural gate frames. The hinge welds on a BFT swing gate carry hundreds of pounds through a very small area, and a cold lap weld or an undercut joint can fail catastrophically, dropping a 300-pound leaf on a person or a car. The actuator mounting brackets are the same story: a bad weld there can throw the operator out of alignment and destroy the gearbox. Give us a call at (213) 322-0062 and we’ll get eyes on it, give you a written price, and leave the job site cleaner than we found it.
FAQs
A properly prepped and welded repair on a BFT gate in Los Angeles typically lasts 10 to 15 years before the surrounding steel needs attention again, though coastal areas like Playa Vista or Marina del Rey may see faster rust penetration at the weld boundaries. The original factory welds on many BFT gates in LA start failing at the 8-to-12-year mark, with the hinge-side joints going first. Call (213) 322-0062 and we’ll assess what’s left on your frame before we quote the repair.
Most cracked hinges on BFT gates in Los Angeles can be re-welded and reinforced rather than replaced, as long as the crack hasn’t traveled through more than half the hinge’s cross-section. If the hinge body is cast and the crack has propagated into the barrel, replacement is the safer call. We’ll show you the crack under light and explain which route we recommend before any work starts.
Most single-leaf BFT weld repairs in Los Angeles take four to six hours on site, including prep, welding, cooling, and touch-up coating. Full frame rebuilds that require removing the leaf and bench work typically run one to two days, and we’ll coordinate the down time with you so the gate isn’t left unsecured overnight.
We stock common steel sections, gusset plates, hinge blanks, and weld consumables on our trucks in Los Angeles, and we carry replacement parts for BFT, LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems. If your repair calls for a specific OEM bracket or an odd-gauge tube section, we can usually have it in hand the next business day.
