BFT keypad and intercom repair in Los Angeles typically runs between $285 and $640 installed, depending on whether we’re replacing a weathered keypad, rebuilding a failed intercom board, or pulling new low-voltage wire through an existing conduit run. Most repairs are completed the same day we arrive, because we stock BFT-compatible keypads, intercom modules, and the common failure components on the truck. The call usually starts the same way: a homeowner walks up to the keypad after work, punches in their code, and nothing happens. Or the intercom rings through but the audio sounds like it’s underwater, and the visitor at the driveway can’t hear a word. That dead keypress or garbled voice is the part telling you it’s done, and Los Angeles sun and grime usually did the damage.

Which BFT Models This Applies To
We repair keypads and intercoms across the main BFT residential lines: the MITTO remote-compatible systems, the RIGEL and THALIA control boards with hardwired entry devices, and the older DEIMOS and BOTTICELLI series that still show up on gates across Los Angeles. If you’ve got a BFT gate operator, the keypad or intercom attached to it is either a BFT OEM part or a compatible third-party entry device wired back to the control board’s command input. The easiest way to identify what you have: open the keypad or intercom housing and look for the printed model label on the back of the circuit board or the inside of the faceplate. BFT keypads commonly carry a model prefix like KP, BFT-EBP, or the older CLB series, while intercoms often show a name like BFT U-COM or MITTO-compatible audio module.
One compatibility gotcha we run into regularly in Los Angeles: BFT keypads come in flush-mount and surface-mount housings, and the mounting back box dimensions are not interchangeable. You cannot take a surface-mount keypad, pop off the cover, and screw it onto a flush-mount back box without major cutting or an adapter plate. We measure the rough-in opening on the pillar or wall before quoting the replacement, because if we need to widen the cutout or fabricate an adapter plate, that changes the labor. On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question for BFT specifically: the OEM keypads are weather-sealed to a higher IP rating and match the original mounting footprint. Good aftermarket units work fine electrically but often need a different back box or a trim plate, and on stucco pillars that’s a half-hour of careful work. For intercoms, we recommend staying with BFT-compatible audio modules because the wire counts and call-button logic are pickier on BFT boards than on LiftMaster or Linear.

Signs Your BFT Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing
- Some keys work, some don’t. This is almost always worn carbon contacts or oxidized membrane traces. The keypad still has life but the dead digits make the code unreliable, and you can’t fix this by pressing harder. It’s a replacement, not a cleaning job.
- The keypad beeps but the gate doesn’t move. The keypad is sending a signal, but the relay or the command wire back to the control board has failed. We test the keypad output at the terminal block first, because on BFT boards the command input LED tells us whether the board even sees the signal.
- The intercom audio is faint, buzzing, or one-way. On BFT intercoms this usually traces to a failing speaker or a corroded terminal on the audio module. Los Angeles coastal air gets into the housings and eats the screw terminals, especially on Beverlywood and Mar Vista installs within a few miles of the ocean.
- The intercom faceplate is cracked or sun-baked. BFT faceplates take years of direct sun and UV here. The polycarbonate gets brittle and hairline cracks let moisture in, and once moisture hits the board, the failure follows within a season. A cracked faceplate is a repair you want to do now, not next year.
- Works after rain, then stops when it dries. This is a loose wire or a cracked solder joint expanding and contracting with temperature shifts. We see it often in the San Fernando Valley where nighttime temps drop fast and pull marginal connections apart. It’ll keep failing until the connection is remade.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Our Los Angeles keypad replacement pricing starts at $285 for a basic BFT-compatible keypad with the existing wiring in good shape and climbs to around $420 for flush-mount models that need cutout work. BFT intercom repair runs $360 to $640 depending on whether we’re rebuilding the audio module, replacing the speaker, or repulling damaged low-voltage wire. Every quote we give includes the part, the labor, and the time to test the entry device against the gate operator so the keypad talks to the board correctly before we leave. That final testing step is the part that separates a real repair from a parts-swap: a BFT keypad on the wrong output setting will beep and never open the gate.
The price you get from us is the price on the invoice. Dean Prescott writes it down before any work starts, and it doesn’t change after the gate is apart. Every repair also carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if that keypad or intercom fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge, no argument, no dispatch fee.
DIY or Call Us?
BFT keypads and intercoms are low-voltage devices, so there’s no household electrical danger in opening the faceplate or testing continuity with a basic multimeter. But there are two honest reasons most Los Angeles homeowners should call us instead of ordering a part online and guessing. First, BFT wiring schemes vary across model years, and the wire colors on a BFT-EBP keypad from 2012 don’t match a current KP unit. If you wire the new keypad to the wrong terminals on the control board, you can smoke the command input. We’ve replaced enough of those boards to know that the $40 saved on labor becomes a $350 board replacement.
Second, the mounting mismatch we mentioned earlier burns people. Order a surface-mount keypad for a flush-mount opening and you’re now dry-fitting, cutting stucco, and hoping the weather proofing still works. If you’re comfortable checking for simple things like a loose wire at the terminal block or a tripped breaker on the gate circuit, go ahead. If you find a dead keypad or garbled intercom audio, call (213) 322-0062 and tell us what the gate is doing or not doing. Dean will tell you a real number before he pulls out of the driveway.
FAQs
Plan on 6 to 10 years for a BFT keypad and 5 to 8 years for an intercom in Los Angeles, depending on sun exposure and distance from the coast. Westside and beach-adjacent installations fail sooner because salt air corrodes terminals and circuit traces. If the device sits on a shaded pillar facing east, you’ll squeeze more years out of it. Call (213) 322-0062 if yours is acting up and you want an honest read on whether it’s worth repairing or replacing.
Sometimes, yes. If the failure is confined to a single damaged wire, a corroded terminal, or a loose relay connection, we repair on the spot. If the membrane, circuit board, or housing is the problem, replacement is cheaper than rebuilding the part, and we’ll tell you that before any money changes hands. Get a straight answer by calling (213) 322-0062 with the model number if you have it handy.
Most keypad swaps and intercom replacements are done in 60 to 90 minutes. If we have to widen a rough-in opening, fabricate an adapter plate, or pull new low-voltage wire, add another hour. We give you a real arrival window and we stick to it, because that’s part of the Kingswell Guarantee on every job in Los Angeles.
Yes. Our Los Angeles trucks carry BFT-compatible keypads in both surface and flush mount, intercom audio modules, weather seals, and the terminal hardware these repairs need. We also stock parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls for the mixed-brand properties we see across the city. Call (213) 322-0062 with your model number and we’ll confirm the part is on the truck before we schedule the visit.
