We stock, weld, and install Elite-compatible gate and fence parts across Los Angeles, and a typical welding and fabrication repair runs $285 – $680 parts and labor depending on the bracket, hinge, or frame section. Same-day service is available for most weld failures on swing and slide gates, and our trucks carry 1/8-inch and 3/16-inch steel plate, square tube stock, and Elite mounting hardware as standard. Most owners don’t plan for this repair. A gate that’s drifted a couple of inches, started sagging at the latch side, or makes a grinding sound when a weld finally breaks is usually the first sign. Dean Prescott has seen cracked weld joints on Elite gate frames from the coast to the Valley, and the pattern is predictable: the pivot-side weld fails first, then the gate binds, then the operator strains until something gives.

Which Elite Models This Applies To
Elite gate operators are common on Los Angeles driveways, but the welding and fabrication work we do typically involves the physical gate the operator drives, plus the mounting hardware, hinges, and brackets specific to Elite swing and slide systems. The compatibility point that matters most: Elite operators bolt to a gate frame using a specific mounting plate and post bracket, and the steel thickness of the gate frame determines whether a weld repair will hold long-term. We see this on Elite SL-3000 and SL-5000 slide operators, Elite CSW200 and CSW200UL swing operators, and the heavier Mirage and Viking-style Elite arms used on commercial lots. When you call us about a weld failure, we’ll ask you to look for the model label on the operator’s control box, and we’ll ask what the gate frame is made of, tubular steel, wrought iron, or aluminum, because Elite swing arms require different fabrication approaches depending on what they’re bolted to. One gotcha in Los Angeles: a lot of “wrought iron” gates installed in the 1990s and early 2000s are actually thin-wall steel tube with decorative scrolls. That material welds differently than solid bar, and a shop that doesn’t know the difference will burn through it.
For OEM versus aftermarket: Elite-branded brackets and hinge kits do exist for their operator arms, and on newer Elite systems from roughly 2015 forward we’ll often recommend staying with OEM parts because the mounting-hole patterns changed. On older Elite installs, quality aftermarket steel brackets are frequently a better value, they’re thicker, locally fabricated, and can be welded to match the existing gate frame more cleanly. We’ll be straight with you either way. The Kingswell Guarantee applies to the repair work whether the part is OEM or aftermarket.

Signs Your Elite Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- Gate sags at the latch side. This usually means the hinge-side weld or the bottom hinge bracket has cracked. The gate is literally hanging on by the top hinge, and every open and close cycle bends the crack a little more.
- Grinding or popping noise during travel. A broken weld lets the gate frame flex, which puts the drive chain or belt out of alignment. The Elite operator is working against a gate that’s now structurally moving in a way it wasn’t designed to.
- Gate hits the stop or the post at the wrong height. When the frame twists from a failed weld joint, the leading edge of a swing gate will meet the post high or low. It’s subtle at first, then obvious.
- Visible rust line running along a weld seam. In Los Angeles, we don’t deal with heavy snow, but marine air near the coast and sprinkler overspray in the Valley both attack raw weld seams. A rust line along a weld means moisture has gotten into micro-cracks in the joint, which is the beginning of a full structural failure.
- Operator throws an obstruction error repeatedly. Elite control boards sense resistance. A gate with a failing weld draws more amperage as it flexes, and the board will stop the gate mid-travel, then reverse. Owners often replace limit switches or sensors first, when the actual problem is the fabricated frame moving under load.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Los Angeles, most Elite weld and fabrication repairs run $285 – $680 installed. A simple crack in a hinge bracket that can be ground out and re-welded on site, often without removing the gate, sits at the low end. A full hinge replacement with new steel plate, new barrel hinges, and re-hanging the gate runs $420 – $680 depending on gate weight and access. If the frame tube itself has rusted through, we’ll quote the fabrication of a new frame section or a reinforcement sleeve, and that work is priced by the inch of weld plus the steel. Every price we quote includes the grinding, the weld, the finish pass, and the hardware. You’ll see the number in writing before any work starts, and the Kingswell Guarantee covers the repair for 365 days. If the weld fails within that year, we come back and fix it at no charge. Tell me what the gate is doing, or not doing, and I’ll give you a real number before I even pull out of the driveway.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself. Look at the hinge welds with a flashlight. If you see a dark crack line or a rust stain running along the weld seam, that’s a failing joint. Try lifting the gate by the latch edge while it’s closed; any vertical play means the hinges are worn or the welds are flexing. What I’d avoid: welding or grinding anything on an electrified gate. The operator has capacitors, the cables carry live voltage, and a grinder throwing sparks near an Elite control box is a real hazard. Also, a gate under tension, especially a slide gate or a heavy swing gate, can pinch or swing hard when a weld releases. If the part that’s failed involves the operator’s direct drive connection or any structural member, call us. This is exactly the kind of repair where a trained welder with the right equipment keeps a $600 problem from becoming a $2,400 replacement. We answer the phone at (213) 322-0062 around the clock, and we’ll give you an honest price range before we schedule the truck.
FAQs
Most original factory welds on a properly installed Elite gate frame last 12 to 18 years in the Los Angeles climate, but marine air in Playa del Rey or San Pedro can cut that to 8 to 12 if the welds were never coated. Repaired welds done properly with the old weld ground out, the area cleaned, and the joint re-welded with matching rod and then sealed, typically outlast the original work. Call (213) 322-0062 and we’ll assess whether your weld failure is an age issue or an install issue.
Yes, most cracked steel brackets can be ground out and re-welded stronger than the original, as long as the surrounding steel isn’t rusted thin. If the bracket has multiple cracks or has been bent, replacement is the safer call. We’ll make the call honestly when we see it, and you’ll get the written price either way before work starts.
Most single-bracket or hinge weld repairs on an Elite gate are done in 2 to 3 hours on-site, including cool-down and a test cycle. A full frame-section fabrication can take a day, since the steel has to be cut, fitted, welded, and sealed. We’ll give you a real arrival window, not a four-hour block.
We stock 1/8-inch and 3/16-inch steel plate, square tube stock, hinge barrel kits, and Elite bracket hardware on our Los Angeles trucks. For uncommon Elite mounting plates, we source locally from metal suppliers in the South Bay and the Valley, usually same-day. If we need something custom, we fabricate it in-house.
