Linear electric gate repair in Los Angeles typically runs $185 – $420 for most operator and control board fixes, and we complete roughly 80% of Linear jobs in a single visit. We’re an independent Linear service provider – not affiliated with the manufacturer, but deeply familiar with the APeX, LDO, and MegaCode lines that show up on Los Angeles driveways. You’ll get a written price before we touch a single bolt, and every repair carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing.

If your Linear gate is stuck, grinding, or ignoring the remote, call (213) 322-0062. A live person answers around the clock. Dean Prescott and our Los Angeles techs will talk through the symptom and give you a real dollar range over the phone before we ever schedule the truck.
How Linear Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
- MegaCode receiver drift on older Linear openers. The MegaCode rolling-code receiver was ahead of its time, but units from the mid-2000s develop a slow frequency drift in Los Angeles heat. The gate works fine from the keypad but won’t respond to the remote unless you’re standing ten feet away. We re-tune or replace the receiver module – usually a $140 – $210 fix.
- APeX control board relay burnout. Linear’s APeX line (common on Los Angeles hillside homes with heavy custom gates) pushes a lot of current through the onboard relays. After five or six years of daily cycles, the relay contacts carbon up and the gate starts stopping mid-travel. We replace the relay or the board, depending on burn severity. We always test the new board through fifteen full cycles before we call it done.
- LDO series limit switch corrosion. Linear’s LDO swing-arm operators sit low to the ground, and in Los Angeles neighborhoods near the coast – Playa del Rey, San Pedro, Marina del Rey – salt air gets into the limit switch housing. The gate opens fine but slams at the end of travel because the limit switch can’t read position. We clean, reseal, and recalibrate the switch assembly, or swap it out if the corrosion has eaten the contacts.
- Worn drive belts on Linear slide gate operators. The belt-driven Linear slide operators run quieter than chain drives, but the belts stretch over three to four years of Los Angeles sun exposure. A stretched belt gives you a gate that shudders on startup or hesitates halfway through its cycle. We replace the belt and tension it to spec, which takes about an hour on most models.
- Photo-eye misalignment from shifting concrete. Los Angeles soil – especially in the Valley and foothill areas – expands and contracts enough to shift gate posts over time. When the posts move even half an inch, the Linear photo-eye safety sensors fall out of alignment and the gate refuses to close. We realign and shim the sensor brackets, then check the post movement to make sure it won’t happen again next season.

Our Linear Electric Gate Repair Process
- 1
You call, we listen. A live person answers at (213) 322-0062. Tell us what the gate is doing – or not doing – and we’ll give you a real number before we even pull out of the driveway. That’s how Dean Prescott runs every call.
- 2
We arrive in the window we gave. Our techs show up background-checked and in uniform, in a marked Portcullis truck. You know who’s coming before they get there.
- 3
We diagnose with the system live. We test the operator, control board, safety edges, and remote signal path. On Linear systems, we always check for heat-related relay fatigue and limit switch drift, because those fail silently more than any other component.
- 4
We write the price down. No verbal “somewhere around” estimates. You get the repair cost in writing – parts and labor separated – before any work begins. If we find something else once we’re inside, we stop and get your sign-off first.
- 5
We repair, test, and clean up. The fix goes in, we run the full test cycle, and then we sweep the debris. The job site looks like we were never there – except the gate works.
- 6
The guarantee goes on the invoice. Every Linear repair carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it fails within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. Written on the invoice, stamped with the Kingswell Guarantee.
What Linear Electric Gate Repair Costs in Los Angeles
Straight numbers, the way we give them over the phone:
- Remote control programming or replacement: $85 – $160
- Safety photo-eye realignment or replacement: $120 – $210
- Limit switch replacement and recalibration: $150 – $240
- Control board relay repair or board replacement: $240 – $520 depending on the APeX or LDO model
- Full operator motor replacement: $680 – $1,150 parts and labor for most Linear swing and slide operators
What moves the price is parts availability, the age of your specific Linear unit, and whether the gate itself is pinched, out of level, or dragging. We use OEM Linear parts when they’re available and the right call; on older models where OEM parts are discontinued, we’ll give you the option of a quality aftermarket part and put that in writing too. Call (213) 322-0062 for an exact quote – estimates are free, and the price you hear is the price you’ll see on the invoice.

AfterWhy Los Angeles Homeowners Call Portcullis Gate Repair Los Angeles for Linear Work
Because most Los Angeles gate companies don’t carry Linear diagnostic experience beyond a manual and a prayer. Our techs train on nine major operator brands – Linear, LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, Ghost Controls, DoorKing, and four more – which matters when your Linear system shares a driveway with a Mighty Mule on the pedestrian gate and a Ghost Controls on the back entrance. One call covers the whole property.
We’ve been a Kingswell company since 2008, and every Portcullis location is independently owned and operated but held to the same four Kingswell Guarantee promises: a written price before any work starts, a real arrival window, a clean job site, and a written guarantee on every repair. The Kingswell Way is five plain-English commitments: say the price before the work; show up in the window we gave; leave the place cleaner than we found it; put the guarantee in writing; come back if it fails. That’s the whole deal.

FAQs
We use OEM Linear parts whenever they’re in stock and the right call for the repair. For older Linear models where the manufacturer has discontinued parts, we source quality aftermarket components and put that on the invoice in writing before installation.
Most Linear repairs in Los Angeles are scheduled within 24 – 48 hours, and we keep a real arrival window rather than an all-day open slot. If the gate is stuck open or won’t secure, tell the person who answers – we prioritize jobs where the property can’t be secured. Call (213) 322-0062 and we’ll give you the next available window.
If your Linear operator is under ten years old and the failure is a relay, limit switch, or receiver issue, repair almost always makes more sense – most of those fixes run well under $500. If the motor itself is seized or the operator is fifteen-plus years old with multiple failing components, replacement is usually the honest recommendation. We’ll show you both numbers in writing and let you decide.
Every Linear repair we do carries a written guarantee for 365 days. If the same repair fails inside that period, we come back and fix it at no charge. The Kingswell Guarantee is printed on the invoice, not promised in a radio ad.
Yes. A single Portcullis tech can handle Linear, LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, Ghost Controls, and DoorKing systems in the same trip. If your Los Angeles property has a mixed-brand setup, we’ll check every operator while we’re there and give you a written price on anything that needs attention.
